This is an exciting opportunity for Current Product Reliability Engineer - Technical Advisors #IN784 in Columbus, Indiana.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Applies highly specialized knowledge of statistical tools including MATLAB, JMP and warranty databases to analyze existing component or system reliability, reports the reliability per the customer’s reporting requirements, and provides interpretation of the results.

  • Manages and implements advanced analytics projects which solve complex analytical problems pertaining to product quality and reliability using quantitative approaches through analytical, mathematical, engineering and technical skills.

  • Leverages data science methodology to solve more complex quality and reliability problems.

  • Provides reliability comparisons and assessments across the product range and identifies and reports adverse or favorable trends in current product reliability.

  • Applies knowledge of statistical and life data analysis techniques to statistically quantify the reliability impact of design change.

  • Utilizes distribution analysis and censored data analysis techniques to choose appropriate distribution that models the behavior of the data most appropriate.

  • Works with current product problem solving teams, finance and marketing functions to solve highly complex quality and reliability issues utilizing 7 Step Product Problem Solving Process.

  • Networks with other product quality leaders to evaluate trends within the organization and to solve cross-business unit and cross-functional product quality and reliability challenges.

  • Develops related tools and methods to quantify and improve reliability test planning.

  • Develops and continuously improves estimation methods for cost per engine (CPE) to support the financial accrual process including current and VPI products across base warranty, emissions warranty, extended coverage and campaign/TRPs.

  • Builds simulation tools for what-if analysis and model assumption verification.

  • Utilizes Statistical Process Control to measure and control quality during manufacturing processes.

  • Develops early warning tool for tracking changes in estimates of the product reliability and cost of coverage.

  • Supports global locations and expansion to new product areas or production locations, including joint ventures.

  • Researches, develops, leads and mentors teams focused on product quality and reliability estimation methods and improvement of the methods and tools.

  • Leads large or multiple reliability projects and performs as the local technical expert for one or more specialties.

  • Communicates technical findings to business, translates risks/rewards of modeling choices into business outcomes, guides analytics modelling to align with the business requirements while leading the key objectives and business goals through the use of data science methodology.

  • Read research papers and implement reading into machine learning algorithms and statistical models using Python, Scikit-Learn library and Minitab, in order to find the most recent and most efficient methods in prediction failures in engines before occurrence.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Statistical tools including MATLAB, JMP and warranty databases

  • Python, Scikit-Learn library and Minitab

  • Implementing research papers into machine learning algorithms and statistical models

  • Distribution analysis, statistical and life data analysis techniques

  • 7 Step Product Problem Solving Process

  • Reliability test planning

  • Statistical Process Control

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications:

  • Position requires a PhD degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Automotive Engineering or related field and 2 years of experience as a Service or Reliability Engineer, Quality Engineer or Manager, or related position.

  • Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Automotive Engineering or related field and 4 years of experience as a Service or Reliability Engineer, Quality Engineer or Manager, or related position.

JOB SITE: Columbus, Indiana

WORK HOURS: 40 hours/week - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience plus bonus. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
