This is an exciting opportunity in Seymour, IN for a Metrology and Calibration Laboratory Manager. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering & research Technology projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages laboratory team to provide effective and timely metrology and calibration engineering support.

  • Designs and develops measurement processes, methods, and procedures for calibration of inspection measurement and test equipment and testing of products and components.

  • Performs Measurement Systems Analysis to ensure traceability and analysis of accuracy and precision requirements.

  • Uses statistics to analyze calibration and testing processes; provides technical interpretation of measurement results and specifications; consults on metrology issues.

  • Provides technical leadership in the field of calibration and metrology to laboratory team and customers; trains on calibration processes and procedures.

  • Manages the workload, team, and assets of the laboratory.

Skills

Problem Solving - Solves problems using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

Laboratory Management - Leads technical resources while managing the business aspects of a laboratory using measure to control both the technical and business aspects of the organization and assuring the requirements of the appropriate certifications and/or accreditations are met.

Measurement Science - Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science, “Metrology” e.g. Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Radiation and Physical.

Quality System Management - Guides in the practice and application of quality system standards required by international certification bodies, industry specific regulatory authorities and customer’s contractually specified requirements

Laboratory Planning - Formulates longer-term capabilities and capacity needs based on customer testing requirements; selects from available technologies to meet and sustain capability and capacity requirements; defines appropriate manpower and skills required to operate the lab.

Laboratory Work Flow Management - Evaluates manpower, equipment and material needs to meet short to mid-term test demand; designs laboratory layout and process flows to maximize efficiency and minimize waste; allocates resources on a daily basis to efficiently meet test demand.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

University, or equivalent degree in Engineering or related technical or scientific subject required.

Experience

Significant level of relevant work experience (8 plus), including supervisory experience, required.

Salary commensurate with experience plus bonus.
