This is an exciting opportunity in Seymour, Indiana for a Machining – Quality Engineering Group Leader.The ideal candidate will be required to supervise Quality Engineers responsible for machined component departments in a production environment. As well as oversite of hourly quality employees which support machining departments, and have direct machining support responsibilities.Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading projects.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Intermediate level of relevant professional work experience in the field of study required.

  • This position has responsibility of P&L and BS of JV Kitting business

  • Involves interactions with third party logistics Company, CBS and supply chain leaders.

  • Need to have sound knowledge of intercompany transactions and Agis process.

  • Other areas include forecasting, margin analysis, variance analysis and partnering in solutions for key exceptions and IT process changes.

  • Knowledge of AP and AR processes will be beneficial.

  • Provides guidance and organization to staff engaged in various current product reliability engineering assignments and projects.

  • Applies sound knowledge of statistical tools and warranty databases to analyze existing component or system reliability, report the reliability per the customer's reporting requirements, and provide interpretation of the results.

  • Applies sound knowledge to assigned areas and products to provide reliability comparisons and assessments across the Cummins product range and identify and report adverse or favorable trends in current product reliability.

  • Applies sound knowledge of statistical and life data analysis techniques to statistically quantify the reliability impact of design change.

  • Leads team in the development of related tools and methods to quantify and improve product reliability.

  • Works with current product problem solving teams as well as finance and marketing functions.

  • Leads a small technical group and works under minimal supervision.

  • Provides guidance, sets expectations, clarifies responsibilities, and provides feedback for project team members in accomplishing tasks and goals.

  • participate as a key contributor and assigns work to meet group commitments.

  • Influences at department or program management level.

  • Provide input on program-related decisions.

  • Proposes innovative initiatives and projects.

  • Contributes to the solution of complex technical problems; provides resources, removes barriers and ensures application of common approaches.

  • Demonstrates depth of knowledge of engineering discipline(s) and leverages expertise on other projects.

  • Identifies developmental needs of group members.

  • Assists with the transfer of knowledge; coaches and mentors less experienced engineers.


  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills while experience managing professional personnel is preferred.

  • Applicants are required to have strong communication skills to support shift to shift hand-off and continuity across machining centers.

  • Applicants for this role must be a self-starter, capable of leading and resolving Quality production issues, capable of identifying and working projects as well as assigned tasks/projects on own motivation, and have a desire to learn and grow in the role.

  • This role requires supporting machining operations as well as participating in design reviews, and troubleshooting events. The ability of working in cross functional teams with Operations, ME, HSE, and Materials to support plant initiatives, improvements, and goals is critical for success.

  • Experience with print reading and standards interpretation, history of machining experience, ability to lead a group in problem solving exercises, ability to teach and mentor, and basic quality engineering processes are needed to be successful.

Product Failure Reporting and Corrective/Preventive Action Systems - Defines and leads a process to record, prioritize, and resolve product failures using cross-functional reviews, rigorous problem solving methods, failed parts transfer processes, data management tools, and project management practices to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability of the product.

Product Failure Mode Avoidance - Mitigates potential product failure modes, by identifying interfaces, functions, functional requirements, interactions, control factors, noise factors, and prioritized potential failure modes and potential failure causes for the system of interest to effectively and efficiently improve the reliability of Cummins’ products.

Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

Product Reliability and Reliability Risk Management - Plans and manages critical reliability activities during new product development by preventing failures before hardware, detecting failures before the customer does, and improving products before production in order to release a reliable and durable product; evaluates key technical and program measures to assess the launch readiness of a new product using prescribed indicators, measures, risk scales and methods of tracking to focus attention on metrics to reduce risk and improve reliability.

Quantitative Reliability Analysis - Analyzes failure data from existing and/or new products by establishing failure rate models for use in assessing the feasibility of meeting reliability targets, comparing the reliability of product alternatives, estimating reliability and product coverage costs, identifying emerging issues, or verifying that improvements implemented have had the desired reliability improvement.

Reliability Test Planning - Develops and analyzes a test plan acknowledging the relationship among reliability, sample size, distribution parameters and confidence; develops system level reliability test plan by considering schedule, number of units, applications, noises, and locations to find unknown failure modes to improve reliability; creates an accelerated test plan by increased use, overstress testing, or combining multiple stresses to build and extrapolate a model to estimate reliability under normal use conditions.

Applies Principles of Statistical Methods - Analyzes technical data using descriptive statistics, probability distributions, graphical analysis, and statistical inference (population and sample, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing); models relationships between response and independent variables using analysis of variance, regression, and design of experiments to make rigorous, data-based decisions.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

Masters or Bachelor of Science, or equivalent technical degree required.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
